The name reflects a central tension of our time: we place enormous trust in systems we don't fully understand. Algorithms recommend what we watch, read, and buy. They influence who we meet and what opportunities we're offered.

Yet most of us couldn't explain how these systems work. In a sense, we operate on faith - algorithmic faith.
